UGA freshman tight end Hunter Atkinson quits football

UGA freshman tight end Hunter Atkinson has decided to quit his football career to “concentrate on opportunities associated with his long term career goals.”

“We will miss Hunter in our freshman class but understand his decision and wish him nothing but the best in achieving his career objectives,” UGA head coach Mark Richt said in a statement.

Atkinson (6-5, 250) played for West Hall High School in Gainesville, Georgia. He flipped his commitment from Cincinnati to Georgia in February on National Signing Day.

“Georgia is a great school with both athletic and academic opportunities and I want to thank Coach Richt and the other coaches for their interest and all they have done for me over the past few months,” said Atkinson. “I realized I have other career goals and want to pursue those interests.”

  • What's this all about ? Leaving UGA, or just football ? Grades ? What other interests ? Lots of questions...

  • Did he quit in time for summer classes at Auburn? Oh wait a minute, he doesn't have felonies or behavior issues....Auburn doesn't want him. Remember AU HC Gus M. is all about second chances and this guy doesn't need one, does he? War eagle is just another phrase for an intestinal cramp.
