Georgia to face Nebraska in 2013 Capital One Bowl

The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2013 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, UGA announced this evening.

Georgia has played Nebraska once in their history. The Dawgs fell to the Cornhuskers 45-6 in the 1969 Sun Bowl.

The Capital One Bowl pits the Big Ten against the SEC and will be televised by ABC at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

Georgia will be making their 48th appearance in a bowl game and 3rd in the Capital One Bowl. UGA beat Michigan State 24-12 in 2009 and Purdue 34-27 in 2004.

The Orlando bowl game had a different title in three other UGA appearances. Georgia lost to Miami (OH) 21-10 in the 1974 Tangerine Bowl, tied Florida State 17-17 in the 1984 Citrus Bowl, and defeated Ohio State 21-14 in the 1993 Florida Citrus Bowl.

The Bulldogs currently have a 26-18-3 record in bowls. This will be the Bulldogs’ 12th straight bowl appearance under Mark Richt and 16th consecutive overall.

“We are delighted with the selection of our team to represent the Southeastern Conference in the Capital One Bowl,” said UGA Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “Our team and fans have not been to Orlando in four years and I know they will be excited to again visit one of the nation’s greatest bowl sites that is unsurpassed for warm weather, world’s greatest family attractions, and outstanding te

“I’m really excited for our team and especially our seniors with the opportunity to play in the Capital One Bowl which is one of the premier January bowl games in the greatest of entertainment areas,” said UGA head coach Mark Richt. “And to play a team with the history and tradition of Nebraska will be an exciting experience for our team and coaches but also for our fans. Very few of our current players were on the 2008 team so this will be the first time most members of our team have the opportunity to play in Orlando and enjoy the fantastic attractions. The opportunity to play a top quality opponent like Nebraska will be a challenge we’ll look forward to.”

  • Hey Dawgs, I just want to let you know that many of us here in Nebraska feel like we don't belong in the Capital One Bowl. You guys have a great team and deserve a much better team to play. Many of us here were pulling for you guys in the bama game. Anyway, we will show up to play you guys but we would appreciate it if you would keep it under a hundred. Later, Dave

  • Dave. Thanks for rooting against Alabama. We almost won. With that being said, on any given day a team can be beat. Trust me, Coach Richt isn't going to take Nebraska lightly. You guys have a great tradition and we respect that. This game may be closer than you think. I've been to Lincoln a couple of times and its so refreshing to be playing someone other than Wisconsin, Purdue or Michigan State.

  • Very upset mo call against the cheap shot against Arron Murray. Ga was penalixed for the hit on Alabama player, but nothing called when murray was hit.
Heard it is being challenged and hope the ref and the player get their result Proud of my Bulldogs.

    • It was a cheap shot, and it doesn't look like the SEC is going to do anything about it. Shameful.
