Georgia Bulldogs running back Isaiah Crowell has been dismissed from the team, UGA announced this afternoon.
Crowell, a 5-11, 215-pound tailback from Columbus, Georgia, was arrested early this morning and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon in a school zone, both felonies, and an altered ID mark on the gun, a misdemeanor.
At approximately 2:20 a.m., Crowell was stopped at a police checkpoint on East Campus Road in Athens. Cops smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and proceeded to search the vehicle. No marijuana was found, but cops did find a 9mm handgun with an altered serial number.
Crowell was arrested and the car was impounded. Outside linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons, wide receiver Blake Tibbs, defensive back Sheldon Dawson and sophomore defensive back Quintavius Harrow were also in the car. However, none of the four were arrested or charged with a crime.
From the UGA release:
“We have a dedicated and committed group of men who are working hard to prepare for the coming season,” said Richt. “Our total focus will be directed toward the team and this effort.”
Crowell started seven games in 2011 and rushed for 850 yards on 185 carries.

Glad he is gone. A good running back, but cocky, unmanageable, and a bad seed. Instead of leading his teammates with character, he was leading them to clubs and trouble. The gun with the number removed says all that needs to be said about him. I expect Richt and the position coaches will have a lot to say to those who were with him and they should. Hopefull this example will send a fear among the rest of the bulldogs.
“We have a dedicated and committed group of men"
lmfao well it damn sure aint Isaiah Crowell.
im so sorry and sad about this
Exactly Bob. Leading a bunch of kids who have not even played a down yet to a club is just plain stupid. Of course they need a good talking to because i doubt he tied them up and made them go. This is a good time for a gut check for the upcoming season. This needs to be the last of this kind of thing.
Guess we know who will be the starting TB for LSU in 2014.....Auburn may benefit as well. $15k to an uncle may seal the dal. Good move Coach R. What a waste and almost a terrible washout for our other reruits that thought this thug wannabe was 'KOOL'. Purge quickly and move on...........Bad work ethic and easy injuries were telling us alot..
