Georgia tops South Carolina 67-55 in regular-season finale

Senior Gerald Robinson scored 23 points to lead the Georgia Bulldogs over the visiting South Carolina Gamecocks 67-55 Saturday in Athens.

The game was Senior Night and the regular-season finale for the Hoop Dawgs. Georgia finishes the 2012 season 14-16 overall and 5-11 in the SEC.

Gerald Robinson, Dustin Ware, Connor Nolte and Matt Bucklin, Georgia’s four seniors, each started in what was likely their last game at Stegeman Coliseum.

After falling behind 10-0 to open the game, Georgia recovered in the last six minutes of the half by hitting five straight 3-points shots to take a 30-23 halftime lead.

The Dawgs stretched their lead to 14 with 8:15 remaining in the game. South Carolina would pull to within seven with 2:58 to go, but couldn’t get any closer.

Georgia will enter the 2012 SEC Tournament as the no. 11 seed and will play no. 6 seed Mississippi State on Thursday, Mar. 8 at approximately 10:00 p.m. ET. This year the tournament is being played at New Orleans Arena (Tournament Bracket).
