Hoop Dawgs Eke by Mercer Bears 56-53

Georgia rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half to eke by the Mercer Bears 56-53 at University Center in Macon. The win was the sixth straight for the Bulldogs and improves their record to 9-2 overall.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 19-8 lead early in the game but then Mercer countered with an 11-0 run and a 12-5 run to enter halftime up 31-24.

Georgia pulled within one with over 18 minutes remaining until the Bears went on a 15-5 run. The Dawgs answered with another run, this one 12 points, to assume the lead with about five minutes left.

Jeremy Price hit a free-throw with under a minute left to give Georgia a 54-53 lead. That point turned out to be the decisive one as the Bulldogs held on to win 56-53.

Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie each scored 20 for Georgia while Jeremy Price added 11. Dustin Ware and Gerald Robinson, Jr., who played 30 and 23 minutes respectively, were held scoreless.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a home game against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Tuesday, December 28, 2010. The game will be televised by CSS at 7:00 p.m. ET.
