Georgia Squeaks by Mississippi Valley State 72-70

Jeremy Price scored 20 points to help the Georgia Bulldogs squeak by the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 72-70 on Friday night. Eight straight points by Price in the closing minutes helped the Dawgs avoid the upset.

Georgia played its season opener without the services of junior Trey Thompkins, who is nursing a high ankle sprain. Hopefully Trey will be ready in time for the Old Spice Classic over Thanksgiving.

Gerald Robinson, playing in his first regular-season game for Georgia, scored 19 points and had 3 assists. Travis Leslie added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

“I thought we really got outplayed tonight,” said head coach Mark Fox. “I was really disappointed with how we rebounded the ball and how we defended the three. I have to give Mississippi Valley State credit. They made a lot of shots from the three-point line that were contested and when they got hot, that really carried their team. Fortunately we made enough big plays late in the game to get a win, but this was a good game for our team from a learning standpoint.”

Next up for Georgia is a home game against Colorado on Tuesday, November 16. The game will be televised by the FSN at 7:00 p.m. ET.
