The Georgia Bulldogs and the Oregon Ducks have canceled their 2015-16 home-and-home football series, the Athens Banner-Herald has reported.
The two schools agreed to the series back in 2006. Georgia was scheduled to face Oregon in Eugene on September 5, 2015 and host the Ducks in Athens on September 10, 2016.
UGA Athletics Director Greg McGarity and Oregon AD Rob Mullens mutually agreed to terminate the contract. One of the concerns for Georgia was the length of travel to and from Oregon. The Bulldogs made a trip like that in 2008 to Arizona State and will make a similar one this week to Colorado.
McGarity, who spent the last 20 years with the Florida Gators, will probably follow their model of non-conference football scheduling. One upper-level BCS team (Georgia Tech), one mid-level BCS team (i.e. Buffalo), one low-level BCS team (i.e. New Mexico State) and one FCS team (i.e. Georgia Southern).
The Pac-10 (to be named Pac-12) is expanding with the addition of Colorado and Utah in 2011. The increase in conference teams means that some are more likely to schedule mid-level BCS schools and FCS schools to fill out their slate.
Georgia Tech is now the only scheduled non-conference opponent for the Dawgs in 2015 and 2016. Georgia’s non-conference opponents through 2016 are listed below:
- 09/03 – Louisville
- 09/17 – Coastal Carolina
- 11/05 – New Mexico State
- 11/26 – at Georgia Tech
- 09/01 – Buffalo
- 09/15 – at Louisville
- 11/03 – Georgia Southern
- 11/24 – Georgia Tech
- 08/31 – North Texas
- 09/07 – Appalachian State
- 09/21 – at Clemson (Date tentative)
- 11/30 – at Georgia Tech
- 09/20 – Clemson (Date tentative)
- 11/29 – Georgia Tech
- 11/28 – at Georgia Tech
- 11/26 – Georgia Tech

Why are they playing Louiville up there both years????
Sorry, typo fixed.
This is a bunch of crap this just shows how weak UGA really is. The SEC and UGA used to be on of the biggest and strongest conferences and teams in the nation now all they are are a bunch of pansies.
It's definitely about wins and losses. The trend now is better overall records over non-conference opponents.
Look at Florida. They have played FSU and 3 weak teams for several year, yet they have won two national titles. If you're in the SEC, you usually have a pretty tough schedule already.
The Pac-10 already currently plays a 9 game conference schedule.
You're right, I guess I was thinking of the Big 12. I think the Big Ten is moving to 9 also.
Can we please FOCUS on the Buffs and Vols instead of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean realy does are AD have this much time???? Lets fix the broken mess we have now and start acting like a REAL UNIVERSITY
Anyway why would someone want to play Georgia right now?? Just so the can screw up there BCS Score!!! We need to win out and FOCUS ON THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
