Georgia Athletics Director Damon Evans was arrested and charged with DUI late Wednesday night. He was also charged with failure to maintain lane and was booked into the City of Atlanta Jail (see mugshot on right).
Also arrested was 28 year old Courtney Fuhrmann of Atlanta. She was in Evans’ car and was arrested for disorderly conduct. Evans has since said that Fuhrmann is “just a friend.”
After being arrested and taken to the jail by the Georgia State Patrol, Evans refused a breathalyzer test and was charged with DUI. Under Georgia’s Implied Consent Law, Evans’ drivers license could be automatically suspended for one year for refusing the test, regardless of the outcome of the DUI charges.
Damon Evans met with the media in Athens on Thursday at 6:30. He expressed regret and remorse for his actions but did not tender his resignation. Evans wants to continue at the University of Georgia and to win back the trust of the Bulldog nation.
