Dawgs Falter Late, Lose to Gamecocks 78-77
The Georgia Bulldogs lost a late lead again and fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks 78-77 in Columbia. Dustin Ware missed the front end of a one-and-one with 3.5 seconds left that would have tied the game.
Georgia is now 9-10 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. Of those five SEC losses, the Dawgs have lost four of them by an average of four points. They also had the lead late in the game and a chance to win each.
But again on Saturday, the Dawgs couldn’t convert when it mattered. Trailing 78-77 with 26 seconds left, Trey Thompkins missed a rather easy layup that would have given Georgia the lead. Then with only 3.5 seconds left, Dustin Ware was fouled and awarded a free-throw (one-and-one). He missed the tying shot, effectively ending the game for the Bulldogs.
With the loss, the Bulldogs now own an 0-7 record on the road this season and 0-4 in the SEC.
Travis Leslie led the Bulldogs with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Trey Thompkins had 18 points and 6 rebounds while Ricky McPhee chipped in 12 points.
Georgia returns home to face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday at Stegeman Coliseum. The game will be televised by CSS at 7:00 p.m. ET.
