AJC: Bobby Knight Interested In Georgia Bulldogs Head Coaching Job
In his column today in the AJC, Furman Bisher wrote that Bobby Knight is interested in the Georgia Bulldogs basketball head coaching position. He stated that this information came from a mutual friend of Knight and Bisher that did not want to be identified.
Knight, formerly head coach at Indiana and Texas Tech, is infamous for his good basketball teams but also his rough demeanor and on-court antics. That being said, he has won 902 college basketball games as a head coach.
UGA President Michael Adams had no comment regarding Knight and the coaching search, but did say “there is no reason for us to not have a first-rate basketball team at the University of Georgia.”
Personally, I wouldn’t mind Bobby Knight being the head coach at Georgia. But only after we’ve expired better options such as Jeff Capel, Sean Miller, Jamie Dixon, Brad Stephens, Anthony Grant and possibly others.
There is no question that Bobby Knight would bring instant credibility to Georgia basketball. But can he still coach and recruit in today’s environment? And how long would he coach?
