No. 1 Bulldogs Beat Georgia Southern 45-21

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs, playing their first game with UGA VII on the sidelines, built a 38-0 lead on the Georgia Southern Eagles and went on to win 45-21. Sophomore tailback Knowshon Moreno rushed 8 times for 59 yards and three touchdowns while Junior quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 13 of 21 passes for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Moreno scored on runs of 2, 3 and 24 yards. Playing in his first game as a Bulldog, redshirt freshman Caleb King rushed 12 times for 95 yards.

Other highlights from the game include freshman placekicker Blair Walsh connecting on his first field goal attempt from 52 yards and the Georgia receiving corps. Kris Durham (3 catches, 74 yards), A.J. Green (2 catches, 40 yards) and Demiko Goodman (2 catches, 22 yards) all caught touchdown passes for the Dawgs. Mohamed Massaquoi (3 catches, 55 yards) and Knowshon Moreno (2 catches, 53 yards) also had a good day catching the football.

Unfortunately for Georgia, Senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens injured his knee midway through the 2nd quarter and may be lost for the season.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a matchup against the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday, September 6. The game will be broadcast at 3:30 pm on FSN South.
